• EVERYTHING BUT WEDDINGS!

This blog is a pictorial journey of my photographic adventures through life when I'm not shooting weddings. As such it is a scenic mélange of my travels, with highlights from the portraits I shoot, street photography, the gear I use and the photographic books and training I read and watch. Triple Espresso, Roast Beef Sandwich and Camera

Today’s photo walk was my usual stroll through the city using my Canon 5D Mark II and Sigma 50mm 1.4. The project was to take all photos while walking with a 15 minute time limit. In Photoshop, I added one of my Kodak film actions.

Leonie, Andy and Crash rock it up!

One thing I love is photographing super cool people and Leonie is one of them. As well as being beautiful, she really knows how to work the camera. We spent a few hours cruising around Nottingham city centre working as a team to create images for her portfolio. I was assisted by her boyfriend Andy who played the role of camera assistant, stylist and security. Thanks buddy.

It was the first time I was able to use my new Canon 85mm 1.2 L II, which I think is an awesome lens for this type of work. Camera was a Canon 5D Mark II.

We are planning on working together on more shoots and projects so stay tuned for more to come with Leonie!

Enjoy.

Yesterday was family day in Newark. I bought along the Canon 5D Mark II equipped with the Canon 24-105mm f4 L lens. While Ilona, Auntie Pauliina and baby Jake were shopping I wondered off for a few street photos.

Two thumbs up

As you know, I love sharing with other photographers everything that I have learned over the last 4 years. Spreading the knowledge is key to taking photography to the next level. I have a library at home full of the latest training DVD’s, books, actions etc. I’m going to be sharing with you anything I think will inspire you to go out there and become a better photographer. Shooting everyday and constantly experimenting are two things I live by. I’m constantly reading books and learning about light. At the moment, I’m reading The Americans by Robert Frank.

A few weeks ago I watched Speedlight Mastery with Damien Lovegrove. If you are into speedlights this is a must watch and definitely deserves two thumbs up. It will get you thinking outside the box and make you think about different ways to use your speedlights for image success. Damien is a master of flash and shares with the viewer the techniques he uses to create awesome portraits. The production value is excellent having been shot on Canon 5D Mark II cameras. So head on over to Lovegrove Consulting and take your speedlight photography to the next level.

Two thumbs up

This is a must watch for anybody interested in photography. It’s six one hour BBC episodes telling the stories behind the world’s greatest photographs and photographers. One of my favourites being William Klein, love that guy! Also brilliant interviews with some of the world’s greatest living photographers including William Eggleston, Nan Goldin, William Klein, Martin Parr, Sally Man and others, it seeks to understand what makes a truly great photograph.

The series was a winner of the Royal Television Society Arts Award 2007.

Super inspirational and educational, it definitely gets two thumbs up!
